Light On!
Light on is an interactive exhibition where the audience has to solve a puzzle. Upon arrival, each visitor receives a headlight and a glove to put on. Then they enter a dark exhibition space where there is only dim floor lighting. The art pieces on the wall are still in the dark, and the visitors have to figure out how to turn on their headlights. With some trial and error, visitors would figure out that holding or touching hands (in a way that the metal pieces on gloves touch) would turn on both person's headlights. Another angle to this puzzle is that two headlights alone are not luminous enough to see the artwork, and other pairs would have to join and direct their lights into the same piece to watch it. Light on is an attempt to reconsider the individualistic approach to galleries and exhibitions. By encouraging looking at the same piece simultaneously, we advocate discussion and partnership. Traditionally, exhibitions do guide and control visitors encounter with a particular order of works and setting routes. However, this work aims to open the door for other unique approaches in designing exhibitions.
